San Francisco – Las Vegas
Today I come to talk to you about a trip that surprised me enormously, in the positive sense of the word, and it was last year that a friend and I decided to go to the United States for the first time, to "conquer America" as we have long enjoyed saying.
So we booked a flight ticket from Paris and landed in San Francisco about 12 hours after takeoff. This city is full of unusual places that we enjoyed discovering in a week. The layout of the city is very square since the streets are straight and long and are arranged in a parallel and perpendicular way, except for the famous Lombard Street which is the most winding street in the world. We travelled from one end of the city to the other mainly on board the famous "Cable Cars" trams, which are the last of their kind to still operate today and were able to appreciate the architecture of Victorian houses. We walked a lot on Pier 39 also called "Fisherman's Wharf" (the fishermen's port) where a great entertainment takes place every day and on which many street artists put their performances into practice. We were able to observe many sea lions that regularly land on pontoons in the port. We obviously went for a walk on the Golden Gate Bridge because this big red bridge is the symbol of the city with the Transamerica Pyramid of the business district. And as confirmed tourists we also visited the famous old prison "Alcatraz" located on an island in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
But what impressed us the most was certainly the population living in this former hippie city. Many neighbourhoods have kept this spirit very free and you can see many second-hand clothing stores, record stores and musicians and other artists walking around in a very relaxed atmosphere. It is a great cultural city in which you feel Zen. It is also a city where homosexuality plays an important role since the gay district "The Castro" is one of the most appreciated districts by tourists and residents.
The many public gardens and parks give the city a very natural look and make it even more pleasant. Ocean Beach, located along the Pacific Ocean coast, is a place to enjoy serene moments, especially when the sun sets, and the landscape is sensational.
San Francisco is not only the city with fog and seismic risks. It is a surprising city, where you feel good from the very first moments. So much so that we had a very difficult time leaving.
